You may have heard me talk before about Enjoyment-Performance Theory – it basically says that we tend to perform better when we enjoy the work (and that we tend to enjoy work that we can do well). I’ve been thinking about the implications of the theory, and what it means in terms of designing a work life that allows you to truly live your Joyful Genius.
One thing I believe is important in living your genius is that you are constantly delivering the most value you can to your customers. And if we perform better when we are having fun, it stands to reason that the best way to deliver maximum value is to have fun!
Another thing that the theory means is this – if you are not joyful in your work, you obviously aren’t adding full value for your customers. I’m assuming for the moment that you are are the sort of person who likes to work with integrity, so giving customers the best value you can is important to you. So here’s a simple way to tell how well you are serving your tribe: how much fun are you having?
How could you bring more joy into your working life?
