Most people have heard the saying “Life begins at the edge of your comfort zone.”
I don’t know about life, but certainly it’s when you stretch yourself beyond your “normal” that you get to discover what you are truly capable of. And as part of the infinite whole, I know that’s a whole lot more than you thought!
So if your growth comes from getting beyond where you feel comfortable, does that mean spending your whole life being uncomfortable if you want to make progress? And if that’s the case, how does that fit with the idea that work, and life, are not supposed to be so hard?
As a Joyful Genius coach, my job is to get people to step into being the best version of themselves. I think I would probably be making my job a whole lot harder if I had to tell people that meant putting themselves into discomfort all the time.
But there is a big difference between being comfortable, and being at ease. When you can be at ease with yourself, and with your innate ability to handle situations that are not particularly comfortable for you, that’s when stepping outside your comfort zone and into your genius gets to be fun, and a source of real joy.
So my advice to you is: don’t get too comfortable. And always be at ease.
